Look away from the screen

Hours a day I spending looking at a screen. There are times when I’m texting or writing a message and want to complete my train of thought so I don’t look up from my phone when someone asks me something. I’ll respond and then realize I should look up because it’s rude not to. This is becoming an issue more frequently as we rely heavily on technology.

Between a work computer, Cell phone, laptop, & TV there are a lot of screens I reference on a daily basis. No wonder our eye sight is becoming worse with each generation.

There are a few apps you can use to track the amount of time you spend on your phone. Results may surprise you.

Moment: Tracking how often you are on your phone and how much time is “wasted”. There is a feature to set how much time you can spend on your phone. This app does have a $4.99 price tag.

Checky: A free app tracking how many times you check your phone. This app only provides one number of how often you view your phone with no other features. I’ve used this one before and was surprised with this result.

Menthal: This is a an for Android users to check as well how often you unlock your phone.

Have you tried to track your phone activity?

  2. This is one of the reasons I prefer flip phones. The other is that they are safe against hackers. A lot of the social media revolution happened while I was teaching in China, so when I came back I could already see the reasons not to get sucked in. I did have a smart phone for awhile, but it had so much junk I couldn’t always remember where the good stuff was, and when I moved to England my call plan froze up and it became a glorified camera.

    1. As phones increase in features we depend on them more and more! Even when I misplace my phone, I panic, heavily rely on my phone.
